Young man fatally attacked near Times Square by unidentified trio

 November 24, 2025

In a chilling reminder of urban decay, a 23-year-old man was brutally beaten and stabbed to death near the heart of New York City’s Times Square in the early hours of Monday morning.

This horrifying incident, which unfolded just after 1 a.m. near 49th Street and Seventh Avenue, saw Daevon Silva from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, lose his life to a vicious assault by three still-at-large suspects.

The New York Post reported that Silva, who had a minor criminal record back home but no prior run-ins with the NYPD, was struck with a baseball bat and stabbed in the back and thigh during the attack.

The police suspect this tragedy may stem from a drug-related dispute, with at least one of the assailants reportedly acquainted with the victim before the altercation turned deadly.

The trio of attackers fled the scene, leaving behind a description that might help track them down: one in a purple sweater and black ski mask, another in a black jacket with dark pants and brown boots, and the third cloaked entirely in black.

Silva was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where, tragically, he was pronounced dead, marking yet another grim statistic in Midtown Manhattan’s rising tide of violence.

Tourists Shaken by Urban Violence

Visitors to the Big Apple, often dazzled by its bright lights, are now recoiling at the dark underbelly exposed by such incidents.

“It’s a little disturbing to hear people are getting stabbed,” a tourist from San Francisco shared with CBS 2.

Well, no kidding—when the city that never sleeps becomes a nightmare for first-time visitors, it’s time to question the progressive policies that seem to prioritize ideology over safety.

This isn’t an isolated event; Midtown Manhattan has been grappling with a string of high-profile violent crimes that should have city leaders on high alert.

Just early Sunday, a 39-year-old man was shot and killed, and on November 16, New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd, 29, was wounded by gunfire outside a club after a sidewalk dispute, with no arrests made yet in that case.

NYPD data paints a troubling picture: while homicides in Midtown South precinct are down to two this year from four in 2024, felony assaults have crept up by about 3%, and in Midtown North, murders are up to five through mid-November with an 11.6% spike in felony assaults.

Time for Real Solutions

These numbers aren’t just stats—they’re a wake-up call for a city that’s long been a symbol of American grit but now risks becoming a cautionary tale of unchecked crime.

While empathy for Silva and his family is paramount, it’s hard to ignore that drug-related disputes and escalating violence point to deeper failures in addressing root causes over feel-good rhetoric.

Let’s hope the NYPD nabs these suspects soon, but more than that, let’s demand accountability from leaders who’ve let Midtown slide into a battleground—because tourists and locals alike deserve better than dodging bats and blades in the city’s beating heart.
