Missing high school coach Travis Turner facing serious criminal charges for soliciting minor

 November 25, 2025

Where does a high school football coach vanish to when the law closes in?

The New York Post reported that Travis Turner, a 46-year-old coach from Union High School in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, disappeared on Thursday, as police approached his home, only for authorities to later reveal he was wanted on multiple charges related to child pornography and soliciting a minor.

Turner, a married father and head coach at Union High School, was leading an undefeated football season when this crisis unfolded. His role in the community made his sudden absence all the more shocking.

The saga began on Thursday, when Virginia State Police headed to Turner’s residence in Appalachia, Virginia, as part of an early-stage investigation. They weren’t there to arrest him, but by the time they arrived, Turner was gone.

That same day, his disappearance was noted, and he was soon listed as a missing person in the state police database. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants, leaving few clues behind.

Over the next few days, the situation escalated as the community grappled with his absence. His wife, Leslie Caudill Turner, posted a heartfelt plea on social media, since deleted, saying, “We love him.” She urged prayers for his safe return.

Charges Revealed Against Missing Coach

On Monday, the legal hammer dropped with ten arrest warrants issued for Turner. These included five counts each of child pornography and using a computer to solicit a minor.

The public learned of these charges on Tuesday, when police confirmed the gravity of the situation. “Police are actively searching for Turner,” the Virginia State Police stated in their update.

Meanwhile, Wise County Public Schools, which oversees Union High School, placed an employee on administrative leave, later confirmed to be Turner. A spokesman noted, “Wise County Public Schools is aware.” They added that the individual cannot access school property or contact students.

The school district emphasized its cooperation with law enforcement during this active legal matter. They’ve barred further comment, focusing on protecting students and staff amidst the scandal.

Ongoing Search

Virginia State Police have ramped up efforts to locate Turner, deploying search and rescue teams, drones, and K-9 units. Authorities are urging anyone with information to step forward and assist.

This isn’t just a personal tragedy; it’s a community shaken by allegations against a trusted figure. How does a small town recover when a coach’s legacy is tainted by such serious charges?

No doubt the families who interacted with Turner and trusted their children with him will take a long time to come to terms with this terrifying situation. Of course, it's also worth considering that Turner has not been convicted in a court of law, but at this stage the families of his students may not care.
