Georgia prosecutor ends 2020 election case against Trump

 November 27, 2025

Georgia’s long-running legal drama involving President Donald Trump and the 2020 election has just been given the final curtain call.

Breitbart reported that the case, which centered on allegations of election interference, has been officially dropped by the new prosecutor in charge, bringing an end to the last criminal proceeding of this nature against the president in the state.

For those who’ve been following this saga, it all started with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis leading the charge against Trump and several associates over claims tied to the 2020 election results in Georgia.

Things took a turn when Willis was sidelined from the case due to concerns over an “appearance of impropriety” stemming from her personal relationship with a special prosecutor she had appointed.

The Georgia Supreme Court didn’t budge on this, refusing to entertain Willis’ appeal to get back on the case just a few months ago.

Enter Pete Skandalakis, executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia, who stepped in last month to take the reins of this high-profile prosecution.

Case Dropped in the Name of Justice

On Wednesday, Skandalakis filed a motion with a Fulton County judge to discontinue the case, putting an end to the legal pursuit against Trump in this matter.

In his own words, Skandalakis stated he was halting the proceedings “to serve the interests of justice and promote judicial finality.”

Now, isn’t that a noble sentiment? While some might see this as a convenient out, it’s hard to argue against the need for closure when a case has been mired in controversy from the start.

Trump’s legal team didn’t waste a moment in celebrating the news, with an attorney declaring, “A fair and impartial prosecutor has put an end to this lawfare.”

That’s a sharp jab at the perceived overreach of progressive legal crusades, and it resonates with those of us tired of seeing political battles fought in courtrooms instead of at the ballot box.

Let’s be clear, though—while this dismissal is a win for Trump, it doesn’t erase the fact that 14 other defendants, including big names like Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows, are still facing charges in this sprawling case.

Legal Realities and Political Implications

Even before Skandalakis pulled the plug, legal experts noted, per AP reporting, that pursuing action against Trump during his presidency was always going to be an uphill battle.

That practical reality, combined with the ethical mess surrounding Willis, made this case a textbook example of how not to handle politically charged prosecutions in a polarized climate.

At the end of the day, Georgia’s decision to drop this case against Trump closes a chapter that many conservatives view as a wasteful distraction from real governance issues.

While critics may cry foul, there’s a strong argument that justice isn’t served by dragging out flawed cases for political theater—let’s focus on policies that matter to everyday Americans instead.
