Protesters clash with ICE in New York City over raid blockade

 November 30, 2025

Chaos erupted in the streets of New York City as a mob of rioters squared off against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, turning a routine operation into a dangerous standoff.

The Daily Caller reported that on Saturday, tensions boiled over when as many as 200 individuals gathered outside a parking garage to prevent ICE agents from carrying out their duties, leading to 18 arrests amid a violent confrontation.

This clash is just the latest in a string of aggressive protests targeting ICE operations across the nation, from Chicago to Portland, Oregon, as opposition to the agency’s efforts to address unauthorized migration intensifies.

The scene in New York City was nothing short of a mess—literally—as rioters piled garbage and used their own bodies to block the garage entrance, per reports from The New York Times.

Things escalated further when some in the crowd hurled police barricades and even planters at ICE agents, according to the New York Post, showing a reckless disregard for safety.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the fact that 18 people were arrested speaks to the intensity of this misguided attempt to derail a federal operation.

NYPD Commissioner Points Fingers at ICE

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch didn’t hold back in her criticism, stating, “The shows of force by federal agents placed police officers, citizens and the agents at risk,” as reported by the New York Post.

While it’s understandable to worry about public safety, laying the blame solely at ICE’s feet feels like a convenient dodge—after all, who threw the first barricade?

Independent journalist Talia Jane noted that the riot seemed to succeed in disrupting the planned ICE operation, which raises questions about whether such tactics will embolden more chaos in the future.

This isn’t just a Big Apple problem; ICE facilities in cities like Chicago and Portland, Oregon, have also become flashpoints for riots as opposition to the agency’s mission grows.

In Chicago, agents faced a shocking attack on October 4 when assailants used cars to ram their vehicles, with local police reportedly standing by instead of stepping in to help.

The Department of Homeland Security highlighted multiple violent incidents at an ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois, via a post on X dated September 26, underscoring the escalating danger to federal personnel.

From Portland to Texas: A Pattern Emerges

Over in Portland, Oregon, violent protesters didn’t stop at targeting ICE—they reportedly attacked conservative journalists covering the unrest and even planned to use lasers against federal law enforcement aircraft.

Elsewhere, Texas saw shots fired at ICE and Border Patrol facilities in July, with ten individuals charged with attempted murder in Alvarado, while a tragic shooting on September 24 left two dead, including the gunman who took his own life.

These incidents, which began flaring up in Los Angeles after an ICE operation in June, paint a troubling picture of a coordinated pushback against federal authority, with some Democrats even calling for ICE to halt operations entirely “to restore order,” as they’ve been quoted saying.
