Prince Harry faces backlash for Trump jab on late-night TV

 December 4, 2025

Prince Harry’s latest attempt at humor on American television turned into a cringeworthy flop as the audience booed his jab at former President Donald Trump.

The Daily Caller reported that during an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the Duke of Sussex stumbled through an awkward skit about royalty and politics, drawing sharp disapproval from the crowd with a pointed remark about Trump.

Things kicked off when Harry unexpectedly interrupted Colbert’s monologue, launching into a skit about America’s supposed fascination with the British Royal family.

Colbert pushed back during the exchange, asserting that Americans aren’t fixated on royalty, which set the stage for Harry’s ill-received quip.

“I heard you elected a king,” Harry said, referencing Trump in a line that landed with a thud as the audience erupted in boos and groans (Prince Harry, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”).

Colbert tried to salvage the moment, chiming in with a half-hearted defense, but the damage was already done as the crowd’s reaction spoke louder than words.

Audience Rejects Political Humor

Undeterred, Harry pressed on, dragging in a historical reference to his ancestor, King George III, who ruled during the American Revolution.

Colbert played along with some lighthearted banter, which finally coaxed a few laughs from the audience, easing the tension momentarily.

Yet, the awkwardness lingered as Harry’s attempt to pivot to humor felt more like a desperate bid to win back the room.

Later in the segment, Harry tossed out another odd joke, listing absurd things he’d do to star in Colbert’s fictional Christmas movie, including settling a “baseless lawsuit with the White House.”

“I’ll record a self-tape, I’ll fly myself to an audition, settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House,” Harry quipped, alluding to a hefty settlement CBS made with Trump (Prince Harry, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”).

Colbert distanced himself from the remark, but Harry doubled down with a cheeky jab about cancellation, which felt more forced than funny.

Christmas Movie Banter Misses Mark

The conversation took another turn as Colbert grumbled about Christmas movies focusing on royalty rather than the religious roots of the holiday, tied to his Catholic background.

Harry, meanwhile, tossed in a self-deprecating line about auditioning as the “Gingerbread Prince,” a quip that barely registered with the crowd still reeling from earlier missteps.

While there’s no denying Harry’s willingness to poke fun at himself, his foray into political humor on American soil raises questions about tone and timing in an era where entertainment often feels like a battlefield for partisan agendas.

Many viewers likely tuned in expecting lighthearted royal anecdotes, not a clumsy swipe at a polarizing figure like Trump. For conservative audiences, this moment may highlight yet another instance of Hollywood’s progressive tilt seeping into late-night TV.
