Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar is dropping a bombshell accusation against the Biden administration’s Department of Justice, claiming they tried to snare him in a shady bribery trap.
The Daily Caller reported that Cuellar, a moderate Democrat often at odds with his party’s progressive wing, was indicted in early May 2024 on charges of accepting $600,000 in bribes from entities tied to Azerbaijan and a Mexican bank.
He’s now alleging the DOJ orchestrated a failed sting operation to entrap him, a claim that’s turning heads.
The saga kicked off with the indictment, accusing Cuellar and his wife of pocketing hefty sums over seven years to sway U.S. foreign policy for Azerbaijan.
Cuellar isn’t backing down, adamantly denying the allegations and insisting both he and his wife are innocent.
He claims to have sought counsel from the House Ethics Committee and a prominent law firm before acting, securing written opinions to clear his path.
Things get murkier with Cuellar’s assertion that DOJ agents, under Biden’s watch, set up a fictitious company and account to funnel supposed bribe money his way.
His D.C. staff rejected the offer outright, and the agents reportedly returned the funds when the scheme flopped.
Cuellar told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, “They even did attempted a sting operation where they were trying to entrap me, and that failed.”
Cuellar pointed fingers at Washington, D.C.-based DOJ officials, alleging they led the probe while Houston prosecutors refused to join, citing no evidence. He emphasized, “The Houston office said, ‘We’re not going to get involved.’ It’s all the DOJ people in Washington, D.C.”
If local prosecutors saw no case, why did D.C. push so hard? This smells like political targeting of a Democrat who doesn’t bow to the progressive agenda.
Cuellar’s centrist stance, often backing GOP initiatives on immigration and women’s sports, might make him a target for the left-leaning establishment.
Is this the Biden DOJ silencing dissent, or just bureaucratic overreach? The whiff of politicized justice is hard to ignore.
Americans deserve clarity on whether their government plays fair or plays favorites with power.
