Actor Kiefer Sutherland arrested after alleged threat to Uber driver

 January 14, 2026

Hollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland, 59, finds himself in hot water after a late-night Uber ride turned into a reported altercation with the driver, leading to his arrest on felony charges.

According to reports, Sutherland was arrested after an Uber driver accused him of making criminal threats and physically assaulting him during a ride around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles, with the driver calling 911 to report the incident, and police later confirming the allegations of assault and threats, resulting in Sutherland’s release on $50,000 bail.

The incident has sparked debate over celebrity behavior and accountability in an era where public figures often seem to dodge the consequences that ordinary folks face.

The New York Post reported that Sutherland called for an Uber Black after dining with a friend late on Sunday night, requesting a ride to his home. At some point during the journey, he allegedly asked the driver to pull over and let him out.

When the driver didn’t comply immediately, Sutherland is said to have threatened to kill him, escalating the situation to a dangerous level.

Driver’s 911 Call and Language Barrier

The shaken driver dialed 911, reporting the threat and an alleged physical assault by the actor.

Upon police arrival, the driver requested a translator, with sources suggesting he may speak Russian or Armenian.

Police determined that Sutherland had indeed assaulted the driver and made criminal threats, leading to felony charges that could carry serious weight.

This isn’t Sutherland’s first brush with the law, as his history includes a 2009 assault charge tied to a nightclub incident where he allegedly head-butted fashion designer Jack McCullough.

That altercation, following the Met Gala after-party in New York City, reportedly stemmed from McCullough bumping into actress Brooke Shields, prompting Sutherland to intervene with force.

McCullough’s representative at the time claimed the designer suffered “a broken nose in three places,” highlighting the severity of that encounter.

Patterns of Behavior or Isolated Incidents?

Adding to the narrative, Sutherland’s 2007 arrest for drunken driving in California—resulting in a 48-day jail stint—raises questions about whether this latest incident is part of a troubling pattern.

While everyone deserves a fair shake, it’s tough to overlook how these repeated legal issues clash with the cultural narrative that often grants endless mulligans to the elite.

Hollywood frequently pushes accountability for everyday people while seemingly shielding its stars from the same standard.
