Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has stepped into the contentious immigration debate with a bold call for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to keep up its arrest operations, according to The Daily Caller.
On Wednesday, Fetterman appeared on “The Will Cain Show” to discuss border security and immigration enforcement, while ICE faces intense scrutiny following a tragic incident in Minneapolis where an agent allegedly shot 37-year-old Renee Good during an operation after she reportedly blocked a street with her vehicle and began driving away as officers approached.
The issue has sparked heated debate across the political spectrum, with many questioning the role and methods of ICE in enforcing immigration laws.
Fetterman, however, made it clear he believes stepping back from enforcement is not the answer, even in the wake of the Minneapolis shooting, which he described as heartbreaking.
Instead, he urged Democrats to avoid knee-jerk reactions and focus on the broader need for accountability at the border.
The fatal shooting in Minneapolis, while a devastating event, shouldn’t derail necessary immigration enforcement, Fetterman argued on the show.
He emphasized that securing the nation’s borders and upholding laws around unauthorized entry aren’t matters of left or right, but of basic responsibility.
“As a Democrat, it shouldn’t be unreasonable to want to secure our border,” Fetterman stated on “The Will Cain Show,” cutting through the noise of partisan posturing with a dose of common sense.
Delving into the data, Fetterman pointed to a Washington Post report showing that from Jan. 20 through Oct. 15, 2025, about 36% of those arrested by ICE had criminal convictions, while roughly 30% faced pending charges.
That’s nearly two-thirds of arrestees with some form of criminal involvement, a figure that underscores the messy reality of enforcement and the need to target those breaking additional laws.
“What happened in Minneapolis was absolutely tragic. This is from the Washington Post. This is the latest statistics. [Exactly] 67% have criminal charges, pending ones,” Fetterman noted on “The Will Cain Show,” before adding that while some individuals aren’t tied to wrongdoing, enforcement can still prioritize serious offenders.
Fetterman’s take isn’t just about numbers; it’s a rejection of the wild swings in immigration rhetoric that dominate today’s discourse, where one side demands open borders and the other obsesses over unattainable perfection.
He’s calling for a middle ground where enforcement and humanity aren’t mutually exclusive, a concept that feels almost radical in today’s polarized climate.
