Trump accuses Rep. Omar of fraud in Minnesota scandal

 February 1, 2026

President Donald Trump ignited a firestorm on Saturday with a blistering message targeting Minnesota’s Democratic leaders over alleged massive fraud in the state.

On the social media platform Truth Social, Trump accused Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) of involvement in a financial scandal he claims exceeds an initial projection of $19 billion, while also criticizing the Biden administration for inaction on the matter.

The issue has sparked intense debate, with Trump and conservative voices raising serious questions about accountability and oversight in Minnesota’s welfare programs, while Omar has pushed back against what she calls unfair targeting by her political opponents.

Trump’s Harsh Words for Minnesota Leaders

Trump, in his Truth Social post, called the situation in Minnesota a case of “Theft and Fraud” far beyond what was first estimated.

“The Theft and Fraud in Minnesota is far greater than the 19 Billion Dollars originally projected,” Breitbart reports, adding that the Biden administration “knew this FRAUD was happening, and did absolutely nothing about it.”

That’s a hefty accusation, and it raises the question of whether federal oversight failed taxpayers at a critical moment when billions were allegedly at stake.

Allegations Target Rep. Omar Directly

Trump specifically targeted Rep. Omar, branding her a “scammer” and questioning her connections to individuals and groups reportedly linked to welfare fraud in Minnesota’s Somali community.

Reports cited by Breitbart News suggest Omar has ties to entities involved in cases totaling over a billion dollars in misappropriated taxpayer funds, though she has strongly denied any misconduct. Her net worth, estimated between $6 million and $30 million by the end of 2024, only fuels the scrutiny.

While Omar insists conservatives are unfairly zeroing in on her, the sheer scale of these financial figures during her time in public office doesn’t exactly quiet the skeptics.

Financial Investigations Gain Momentum

The U.S. Department of Justice, under former President Joe Biden, reportedly launched an investigation into Omar’s finances after a New York Times article highlighted a $30 million increase in her net worth since her election.

Further intensifying the pressure, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) has promised to subpoena Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett, over the couple’s financial records, while the House Oversight Committee is already probing their assets, according to Breitbart News on Jan. 23.

If these investigations uncover evidence of wrongdoing, the political repercussions could be enormous, though without concrete proof, there’s a risk this gets dismissed as partisan posturing.

Gov. Walz Also Under Fire

Trump’s criticism didn’t spare Gov. Walz, whom he described as either profoundly corrupt or shockingly incompetent for not addressing the alleged fraud in Minnesota.

The president also accused both Omar and Walz of using distractions like ICE operations and related protests to divert attention from the financial scandal.

Whether this is a deliberate tactic or a clash of policy priorities, it’s clear the public deserves straight answers about where taxpayer money has gone, not smoke and mirrors.
