Chad Lowe’s family mourns daughter Fiona after death at 13

 September 30, 2026

Chad Lowe and his wife, Kim Painter, are mourning their daughter Fiona at 13, calling her the light of their lives and asking for prayers and privacy.

The actor’s family told Page Six on Tuesday that Fiona had died, describing a loss that has left the household shattered.

No cause or place of death was released. The family’s words stayed on who she was, and on the hole she leaves behind.

Fiona was the middle of three girls. Her older sister, Mabel, is 17. Her younger sister, Nixie, is 10. Their parents have been married since August 2010.

Parents call Fiona the light of their lives

In the statement shared with Page Six, the family did not hide the depth of the blow.

They said:

“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance,”

They went on:

“She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”

The same message pointed people in pain toward help. It urged anyone struggling with mental health to contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by call or text.

School alerts parents and offers counselors

Tuesday morning, the principal at Fiona’s school emailed families about the death of a student. The note did not name her.

The principal wrote that it was with deep sadness that parents were being told a student had died, and offered sincere condolences to the child’s family, friends, and teachers.

Counselors, the email said, were available for students and staff who needed support.

A father who celebrated his “FiBear”

Lowe, 58, is known to fans as an actor and as the younger brother of Rob Lowe. He was previously married to Hilary Swank; that marriage ended in January 2006 after eight years. His public posts about his daughters painted a simpler picture: a dad proud of three girls.

In November 2025 he marked Fiona’s birthday on Instagram, celebrating her “officially becoming a teen.” He told her to keep dancing through life, called her “FiBear,” and said he loved her. The post showed her smiling in cowboy boots.

Months earlier, in February 2025, he shared photos after the girls visited the remains of their Los Angeles childhood home, destroyed in the Palisades fire. He wrote that the way they had handled that devastation was “nothing short of remarkable,” said he was in awe of their spirit and resilience, and called being their dad his life’s greatest joy and privilege.

On the “Still Here Hollywood” podcast in August 2024, Lowe talked about life as a girl dad. Having three daughters, he said, moved equality and the barriers women face from something he knew in his head into something he felt in his heart. He said he had come to see the world from their perspective.

Those earlier words now sit beside a family’s request for prayer and quiet. Fiona was 13, a dancer, a sister, a daughter described by the people who loved her as smart, creative, and deeply loved.

Grief this raw does not need a spotlight. It needs the space her parents asked for, and the simple truth that a child’s life mattered more than any headline.
