Journey drummer Deen Castronovo hospitalized after medical scare at Tulsa concert

 October 9, 2026

Journey drummer Deen Castronovo was rushed off stage and taken to a hospital during a Thursday night concert in Tulsa, though bandmates said he would be okay.

FOX23 reported that Castronovo suffered a medical emergency at the BOK Center as the classic rock band played its second song of the night.

Crew members got him off the stage quickly. He was then taken to a hospital. No public update named the hospital or described the medical problem.

The show did not stop. Longtime Journey drum tech Steve Toomey stepped in and kept the set moving for the Tulsa crowd.

Bandmates Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain later asked fans for their prayers. They also told the audience Castronovo was going to be okay. Beyond that reassurance, the band gave no further word on his condition.

Second song, sudden exit, show goes on

People Magazine supplied the detail that the emergency hit during Journey’s second song, a point carried in the local coverage out of Tulsa. The rest of the night stayed on schedule with Toomey behind the kit.

Journey has spent decades packing arenas with hits that still fill radio playlists and sports stadiums. Castronovo has been part of that live engine as the band’s drummer, driving the big choruses night after night. A sudden medical exit in the opening stretch of a show is the kind of jolt no touring act wants, especially with a full house already on its feet.

What remains unclear is the exact nature of the emergency, the hospital involved, and any timeline for Castronovo’s recovery or return. The band’s public message stayed brief: prayers welcome, and confidence he would be fine.

For fans who paid to hear the catalog live, the night became a test of the old road rule. The drum chair changed hands mid-set, and the music kept going while a bandmate headed for medical care.

When a working musician collapses into an emergency on stage, family, crew, and fans deserve clear facts and a full recovery, not silence dressed up as spin.
