James Comey's son-in-law resigns as federal prosecutor after indictment announcement

 September 26, 2025

Buckle up, folks—former FBI Director James Comey’s family is caught in a legal firestorm that’s tarnishing their once-polished image.

Newsmax reported that Comey’s son-in-law, Troy Edwards, quit his job as a federal prosecutor mere minutes after Comey’s federal indictment for obstruction and false statements went public, while earlier woes struck with the dismissal of Comey’s daughter, Maurene, from her prosecutor role.

Let’s start with the bombshell: James Comey, who once led the FBI with an iron fist, now faces grave federal charges for allegedly lying and obstructing justice. It’s the sort of accusation that makes you wonder just how deep the corruption in high places runs.

That same day, as the indictment was unsealed, Troy Edwards, Comey’s son-in-law, resigned from his post as deputy chief of the National Security Section in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

He didn’t waste time, submitting a curt, one-sentence resignation letter to acting U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, pinning his decision on a need “to uphold” his constitutional oath.

Edwards’ Sudden Resignation Fuels Suspicion

“To uphold my oath,” Edwards wrote, but let’s not kid ourselves—stepping down just minutes after the indictment hit the wires, as noted by The Associated Press, looks more like dodging a family fallout than taking a heroic stand.

Edwards has a strong track record, mind you, having spearheaded the prosecution of Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes for seditious conspiracy tied to the January 6 Capitol riot.

Even so, the precise timing of his exit hints that the burden of this scandal may have been too heavy, no matter his past achievements.

But wait, there’s more—the Comey clan’s troubles don’t end with Edwards or James himself.

Earlier this year, Maurene Comey, James’s daughter, lost her job as a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York, piling on more stress for the family.

She’s not going quietly, though, and has launched a lawsuit claiming her dismissal was driven by political motives and violated her constitutional rights.

Justice or a Partisan Attack?

Some might say this smacks of a progressive agenda twisting the justice system into a tool for revenge, but let’s not forget that actions often carry consequences, even for those who once held untouchable positions.

With Edwards’s abrupt resignation and Maurene’s courtroom fight, the Comey family seems trapped in a relentless cycle of legal and career setbacks.

It’s a harsh reminder that no one escapes accountability forever, and maybe that’s a glimmer of hope for a nation craving fairness in a system too often swayed by clout and connections.
