Trump blasts Jack Smith after documents confirm Smith and Biden's FBI spied on Republican lawmakers

 October 7, 2025

The FBI, under the Biden administration’s watch, spied on the phones of Republican lawmakers in a probe that’s raising serious questions about overreach and political bias.

The New York Post reported that newly released documents exposed how the FBI, during an investigation dubbed “Arctic Frost” into 2020 election interference, analyzed call data from eight Republican senators and one congressman under former special counsel Jack Smith’s oversight.

Let’s rewind to April 2022, when the Arctic Frost probe kicked off to scrutinize concerns over the 2020 election results, with a particular focus on efforts to organize an alternative slate of electors.

Later that year, Jack Smith stepped in to lead this controversial investigation, setting the stage for what many conservatives see as a troubling pattern of targeting political opponents.

Fast forward to 2023, when the FBI conducted what’s described as a “preliminary toll analysis” on the phone records of prominent GOP figures, including Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Josh Hawley of Missouri, among others.

According to Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, this analysis stuck to metadata—details like who called whom and when—rather than listening in on conversations, but that’s cold comfort to those who feel their privacy was still violated.

Sen. Grassley Sounds the Alarm

On Monday, Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa dropped a bombshell by releasing a one-page document titled “CAST Assistance,” dated Sept. 27, 2023, which confirmed the FBI’s cellular analysis team had dug into these limited call records.

Grassley didn’t mince words, telling reporters, “If heads don’t roll in this town, nothing changes,” signaling a deep frustration with what he sees as unchecked power in federal law enforcement.

His fury is shared by fellow Republican senators, who are now vowing to launch their own investigation into how and why their personal data was swept up in this probe.

President Trump, never one to hold back, weighed in with a sharp jab, stating, “Deranged Jack Smith got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. A real sleazebag!!!”

Trump’s outrage resonates with many on the right who view Smith—previously at the helm of prosecutions charging Trump with dozens of felony counts in cases tied to the 2020 election and classified documents—as a symbol of a weaponized Justice Department.

Adding fuel to the fire, whistleblowers earlier in 2024 claimed the FBI also accessed phone data on Trump himself and former Vice President Mike Pence during this same Arctic Frost investigation.

Broader Scope of Arctic Frost Revealed

In September 2024, further documents showed that 92 groups or individuals linked to the GOP, including organizations like Turning Point USA, were under scrutiny in this sprawling probe.

Since Trump’s return to the White House, his administration has been laser-focused on reviewing Justice Department officials tied to investigations of the 2020 election and the events of Jan. 6, 2021, signaling a pushback against perceived overreach.

Meanwhile, in August 2024, it emerged that the Office of the Special Counsel had opened an investigation into Jack Smith himself, a move that many conservatives hope will bring accountability to what they call a partisan witch hunt.
