Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claims she’d crush JD Vance in hypothetical 2028 race

 December 18, 2025

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) just fired a shot across the bow with a claim that’s pure political theater.

On Wednesday, the progressive star told reporters she’d “stomp” Vice President JD Vance in a speculative 2028 presidential face-off, spurred by a new national poll showing her with a wafer-thin lead.

Breitbart reported that The Argument/Verasight survey, released on Tuesday, pegged Ocasio-Cortez ahead of Vance by just two points, 51% to 49%, in a head-to-head matchup.

Before anyone starts carving victory trophies, Newsweek clarified that the poll’s 2.7 percentage point margin of error renders this contest a statistical toss-up.

In plain English, it’s too close to call. The survey explicitly asked voters who they’d choose between Ocasio-Cortez and Vance, but the results are far from a decisive win.

Undeterred, Ocasio-Cortez seized the moment when reporters brought up the poll. Furthermore, this situation has made it clear that AOC is definitely considering a presidential run in 2028, especially with no clear frontrunner emerging.

Poll Shows a Virtual Dead Heat

“These polls like three years out—they are what they are,” she remarked to reporters, acknowledging the limited value of such early forecasts.

“But let the record show I would stomp him. I would stomp him!” Ocasio-Cortez insisted, landing a rhetorical punch that’s more showmanship than substance.

Let’s get real—boasting about “stomping” someone over a statistical tie is like claiming the Super Bowl after a coin flip. Confidence can inspire, but this kind of talk risks looking detached from the grind of everyday American concerns.

Zooming out, Ocasio-Cortez isn’t the only name in the mix for a potential 2028 Democratic primary. Other speculated contenders include California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Sen. Cory Booker.

That’s a packed roster, and a slim two-point edge against Vance today doesn’t mean much when you’re up against a field of seasoned politicos. The path to any nomination will be a slog, not a strut.

For conservatives watching this unfold, the focus feels misplaced. While Ocasio-Cortez touts a hypothetical triumph, many Americans are wrestling with real-world challenges that dwarf distant election drama.

Conservative Skepticism of Progressive Boldness

Her far-left policies often jar with the priorities of working-class voters who crave practical fixes over ideological grandstanding. This “stomp” rhetoric might fire up her supporters but likely falls flat with those wary of progressive overreach.

Ultimately, surveys this far out are more popcorn fodder than policy insight. If 2028 pits these two against each other, it’ll be track records, not tough talk, that sway the electorate.

So, while Ocasio-Cortez swings for the fences with her bold claim, conservatives might just sit back and wait for the game to actually start. Hype is cheap; results are what count.
