Anna Kepner's stepbrother suspected in tragic cruise ship death

 November 21, 2025

Tragedy struck a Florida family when 18-year-old cheerleader Anna Kepner was found dead on a Carnival cruise ship, with her own stepbrother emerging as a suspect in a case that’s as heartbreaking as it is unsettling.

The New York Post reported that in a devastating turn of events, Anna Kepner, a bright young woman from Titusville, Florida, lost her life during a six-day cruise with her father, stepmother, and two brothers, only to be discovered deceased under chilling circumstances.

This promising student at Temple Christian School, set to graduate in the spring, had dreams of joining the U.S. Navy and becoming a K-9 police officer—ambitions now tragically cut short.

Grim Discovery on the High Seas

During the cruise, as the ship neared its return to Port Miami, Anna’s body was found hidden under her cabin bed, covered with life vests, according to court documents filed by her stepmother, Shauntel Hudson.

The Miami-Dade medical examiner later confirmed that Anna had passed away on board at 11:17 a.m. on November 7, a full day before her body was uncovered.

It’s a grim reminder of how even family vacations, meant for bonding, can turn into nightmares when dark dynamics lurk beneath the surface.

At the center of suspicion is Anna’s 16-year-old stepbrother, described by Steven Westin, father of Anna’s ex-boyfriend, as having an unhealthy fixation on her.

Westin told Inside Edition, “He’s like infatuated, attracted to her like crazy.”

That’s not just creepy—it’s a warning sign that, in today’s hyper-progressive climate where we’re told to ignore red flags for fear of offending, might have been dismissed too easily by those who should’ve acted.

Disturbing Behavior Ignored by Family

Even more alarming, Westin shared that his son, Joshua, once witnessed the stepbrother climbing on top of Anna while she slept during a FaceTime call—a deeply inappropriate act that should’ve set off alarms.

Yet, when Joshua tried to alert Anna’s parents, Westin claims they brushed off the concerns, refusing to believe the gravity of the situation.

If true, this speaks to a troubling trend of denying uncomfortable truths in the name of family harmony or perhaps fear of judgment in our overly sensitive culture.

Adding to the unease, Westin noted that the stepbrother often carried a large knife, a habit that reportedly left Anna frightened for her safety—a detail that now looms large in hindsight.

The FBI has taken over the investigation, given that the incident occurred in international waters, and while they’ve questioned the stepbrother, few details have been made public, leaving more questions than answers.

Meanwhile, family tensions spilled over at Anna’s funeral in Titusville, where her biological mother, Heather Kepner, was barred from attending due to longstanding disputes, a sad footnote to an already tragic story.
