Arizona man once held in Nancy Guthrie probe booked again on separate charges

 October 6, 2026

Luke Daley, once detained then freed in the Nancy Guthrie abduction probe, was booked again in Arizona on charges the sheriff calls unrelated.

A Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said the 37-year-old was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on September 30, 2026, and that the new case has no connection to the unsolved disappearance of the 84-year-old Tucson woman.

Fox News reported that Daley had already drawn investigators’ attention months earlier in the same city. Police pulled him over on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, in a Culver’s parking lot and served a search warrant at his mother’s home nearby during the Guthrie kidnapping inquiry. He was released without charges hours later.

Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, is believed to have been taken from her home in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills area on Feb. 1. She has now been missing for more than eight months. No publicly identified suspects have been named in the abduction.

Sheriff says new booking stands apart from the kidnapping case

After the September booking, the department drew a clear line.

A Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson stated:

"Luke Daley was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on September 30, 2026,"

The same spokesperson added:

"This is unrelated to the Nancy Guthrie case."

The specific charges behind that booking were not detailed in the available account. What is known is Daley’s broader record. He has prior felony convictions, faced pending drug and firearm charges, and was already on probation in another case involving drugs and weapons violations. Prosecutors had petitioned to revoke that probation.

Attorney denied any tie after the February stop

The February traffic stop and raid put Daley briefly in the middle of a high-profile search. His mother’s home sits roughly two miles from Guthrie’s. After his release without charges, his lawyer pushed back hard on any suggestion of involvement.

Attorney Chris Scileppi said:

"Mr. Daley has no link whatsoever to Nancy Guthrie and has no information related to her kidnapping,"

Scileppi also said:

"Like the entire Tucson community, both Mr. Daley and his mother are hopeful that Nancy will be returned to her family unharmed."

Nest camera footage and a still-open reward

Around the time Guthrie vanished, a masked person appeared on her Nest doorbell camera. The FBI released two images from that footage. The figure was described as between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build. It remains unclear whether the images show the same person, and the masked individual has not been publicly identified.

Investigators have also received purported ransom and death notes submitted through media online tip forms. One demanded money. Another claimed Guthrie had died unexpectedly. Authorities have not confirmed who sent them or whether the notes are authentic.

A combined reward of more than $1.2 million remains unclaimed. The FBI has asked the public to call 1-800-CALL-FBI with information. A Tucson Crime Stoppers affiliate lists 520-88-CRIME for tips.

Guthrie’s whereabouts are still unknown. The masked suspect seen on the doorbell camera remains at large. Daley’s latest booking, whatever its separate merits, does not close that gap.

An elderly woman is still missing, a large reward sits untouched, and a man with a long criminal trail keeps cycling through the system on his own charges while the main case stays cold.
