Big Brother Season 8 contestant Amber Siyavus has died at 46, with Nevada coroner records listing the cause as pending while former houseguests share condolences and unanswered questions.
AOL reported that Siyavus, known to fans as a Season 8 personality who finished in seventh place, died Friday, October 9.
Records from the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner in Nevada list her cause of death as “pending.” TMZ obtained those records, and neither her family nor the CBS show had issued a public comment at the time of the report.
Siyavus competed on the long-running CBS reality series and reached the jury phase without winning Head of Household or Power of Veto, a detail that set her apart on her season. Fans nicknamed her “Whamber.” In the house she formed close bonds with Jameka Cameron and Dustin Erikstrup and clashed with Season 8 winner “Evel” Dick Donato.
Donato later posted about her death on social media, mixing grief with a personal claim about her struggles after the show.
“This is a shame... The last time I had contact to Amber, she was just out of rehab for heroin. I contacted her on FB to give her some encouraging words about staying clean. I hadn’t spoken to her since just after the show. My guess is she OD’d. RIP Amber. Your battle is over. Sigh,”
Nothing in the coroner records confirms that guess. The official cause remains pending, and no agency has verified an overdose or any other manner of death.
Other Big Brother alumni left shorter notes of sympathy on a Reality TV Fans Instagram post. Season 23’s Derek Frazier wrote, “Aww. Rest in Peace.” Season 25’s Felicia Cannon added a wider prayer for the people closest to her.
“Prayers to Amber’s family and friends. May they keep her memory in their hearts.”
Season 21’s Tommy Bracco wrote that he was “so sad” and praying for her family. Season 27’s Jimmy Heagerty simply said, “Rest in peace.”
Siyavus had already carried a devastating family blow. Her daughter, Lexi Tomcavage, died in 2018 at age 18 in a reported suicide. Reporting at the time of Amber’s death did not name a current partner and left unclear the identity of the man with whom she had shared her daughter.
She is not the first Big Brother alum to die young in the years after leaving the house. Mickey Lee, from Season 27, died in December 2025 after cardiac arrest. Kent Blackwelder, a Season 2 player, died in 2017 from a heart attack. Cassandra Waldon, from Season 1, died in a 2019 car crash.
Those names do not explain what happened in Clark County on October 9. They only show how often the show’s orbit has outlived the people who briefly filled it.
Big Brother continues to air and stream, including on Paramount+. The program’s silence in the first public hours after the coroner records surfaced left fans and former players to speak first.
