Conservatives criticize Kimmel's response to Charlie Kirk's remarks as inadequate

 September 24, 2025

Jimmy Kimmel stumbled into a hornet’s nest of conservative anger after trying to explain controversial statements about the tragic murder of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Fox News reported that the host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" sparked outrage with comments that appeared to tie Kirk’s assassin to conservative supporters, leading to a Disney suspension and a later clarification that many on the right deemed unconvincing.

Last week, Disney paused production of Kimmel’s show to prevent further tension during a charged national moment, pointing to the insensitivity of his original remarks.

The suspension followed Kimmel’s statements last Monday that seemed to blame certain political groups for Kirk’s murder, igniting immediate controversy across social media platforms.

Disney told Fox News the break was needed to avoid “further inflaming a tense situation,” a reflection of how deeply the public felt the impact of those words.

After nearly a week away, Disney brought Kimmel back to the air on Tuesday after what they called “thoughtful conversations” with the host.

Kimmel’s Clarification Fuels More Debate

Upon his return, Kimmel tackled the backlash head-on, claiming he never intended to downplay Kirk’s death or assign blame to any specific faction.

“It was a deeply disturbed individual,” he emphasized, attempting to separate the act from political motives, though his effort didn’t land well with many critics.

While admitting his comments might have felt “ill-timed or unclear,” Kimmel avoided a direct apology, a choice that only deepened conservative frustration.

The response from the right was quick and fierce, with prominent voices slamming Kimmel’s explanation as inadequate and, in some cases, outright deceptive.

Andrew Kolvet, a close friend of Kirk and executive producer of his show, dismissed the remarks as “not good enough,” capturing a common feeling among conservatives.

Journalist Jack Posobiec took a sharper jab, accusing Kimmel of “fake crying” and manipulating emotions, suggesting the host’s remorse lacked authenticity.

Accusations of Dishonesty Intensify

Benny Johnson of "The Benny Show" cut straight to the point, branding Kimmel a “sick liar” for what he viewed as dodging accountability for the initial damage.

Actor Rob Schneider termed it a “semi-apology,” arguing Kimmel’s rhetoric often stokes harmful narratives, while James Woods challenged Kimmel’s audacity to even mention Kirk after past criticisms of conservatives.

Jerry Dunleavy from Just the News piled on, asserting Kimmel initially hinted the killer aligned with conservative views, only to retreat when the backlash grew—hardly a shining moment of integrity, one could argue.
