Elon Musk accuses Ilhan Omar of treason over Somali comments

 December 10, 2025

Elon Musk has dropped a bombshell on social media, accusing Rep. Ilhan Omar of nothing less than “treason” over her past remarks about prioritizing Somali interests.

The New York Post reported that this firestorm erupted after a clip of Omar’s statements from earlier this year resurfaced, compounded by sharp criticism from President Trump at a recent Pennsylvania rally, drawing fierce reactions from lawmakers and the public alike.

Let’s rewind to January 27, when Omar addressed her Twin Cities constituents with a fiery pledge to protect Somali interests, specifically opposing a sea-access agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia.

In that speech, Omar suggested the U.S. government would bend to the will of Somali Americans, a stance that has now landed her in hot water with conservative voices.

Fast forward to this week, when President Trump took the stage in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, and didn’t hold back, lambasting Omar with personal jabs that prompted the crowd to chant, “Send her back!”

Trump’s words were sharp, but let’s be honest—while his style may ruffle feathers, the underlying concern about elected officials prioritizing foreign interests over American ones isn’t a trivial matter for many voters.

Omar’s Remarks Stir National Debate

Hours after Trump’s rally, Elon Musk entered the fray on X, posting, “This sounds like treason,” in response to the resurfaced clip of Omar’s comments.

Musk isn’t mincing words, and while “treason” is a heavy charge, it reflects a growing frustration among conservatives who feel that loyalty to the U.S. should be non-negotiable for members of Congress.

Omar’s translated remarks from January 27 didn’t help her case, as she stated, “The US government will only do what Somalians in the US tell them to do. They will do what we want and nothing else.”

She continued, “As long as I am in the US Congress, Somalia will never be in danger, its waters will not be stolen by Ethiopia or others.”

Now, protecting one’s heritage is understandable, but when a U.S. lawmaker seems to put another nation’s agenda ahead of America’s, it’s no surprise that eyebrows are raised—and tempers flare.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, a Republican from Minnesota, didn’t hold back, declaring on X that Omar’s “Somalia-first comments are a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she was elected to serve.”

Omar Fires Back at Critics

Emmer even called for her resignation, arguing that her words violated her oath of office, a sentiment echoing the concerns of many who question where her true allegiance lies.

Omar, for her part, responded to Trump’s rally remarks on Tuesday evening via X, dismissing his criticism as an obsession and accusing him of lacking substantive economic plans.

While Omar has every right to defend herself, sidestepping the core issue of her earlier statements might not satisfy those who see her words as a conflict of interest, especially in a polarized political climate where trust in leadership is already shaky.
