Fairfax County Democrats released illegal immigrant who went on to murder a man

 December 18, 2025

Imagine a preventable tragedy unfolding because local Democrat officials ignored federal requests—now a Reston man is dead.

The Daily Caller reported that Marvin Morales-Ortez, an unauthorized migrant from El Salvador, was released by Fairfax County, Virginia, despite a federal detainer from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and allegedly committed a fatal shooting in Reston on a Wednesday afternoon.

Morales-Ortez’s story in Fairfax County isn’t new; court records paint a troubling picture of repeated leniency.

Between August 2023 and September 2025, the county dropped multiple charges against him, including assault causing injury, brandishing a firearm, assaulting law enforcement, and disorderly conduct.

Back in 2021, he faced a murder accusation, but it was dismissed after another individual was deemed responsible, according to the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney.

His only conviction? A mere failure to appear in court over a theft charge in June 2024, resulting in a $300 fine he never fully paid, with no jail time served.

ICE Detainer Ignored by County

Fast forward to this week: Fairfax County released Morales-Ortez from jail on a Tuesday, blatantly disregarding an ICE detainer meant to secure him for deportation proceedings.

An ICE spokesperson didn’t mince words on this failure: “Fairfax County failed the victim by refusing to work with ICE and releasing this criminal alien onto Virginia streets instead of safely into ICE custody.”

One has to wonder—how many warnings does it take before sanctuary policies stop trumping public safety?

After his release, the local Community Services Board flagged Morales-Ortez as a mental health risk, securing an emergency custody order.

Fairfax County Police tried to locate him at his listed residence, but the order expired after eight hours with no success.

That very next day, Wednesday, a shooting rocked Reston, leaving a man dead in his own home—a gut-wrenching outcome that could have been avoided.

Manhunt Ends in Arrest

Following the tragic incident, a manhunt ensued, culminating in Morales-Ortez’s arrest for the alleged killing.

He now faces a second-degree murder charge and is being held in custody, though court records show he currently lacks a defense attorney.

Meanwhile, a county spokesperson dodged questions from the Daily Caller News Foundation, leaving taxpayers to wonder why accountability seems so elusive in Fairfax. If local leaders won’t even comment, how can they justify policies that risk lives?
