Harry and Meghan make first official joint outing in Nottingham since UK return

 October 15, 2026

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first official joint appearance since moving back to Britain, stepping out in Nottingham with charity stops and a simple line, “it’s great to be back.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex walked out together around 10:35 a.m. Thursday in Nottingham, their first official joint outing since the family returned to the United Kingdom and settled in the Cotswolds. Page Six reported the pair began with a walkabout outside the Community Recording Studio, an organization that helps young people affected by violence.

Meghan, 45, told a well-wisher the return felt welcome. Harry, 42, stayed close as fans pressed in with gifts and phones.

“It’s great to be back,” she said.

“It’s great to be back.”

One fan held up a throwback photo. Meghan answered in kind.

“That’s so special.”

She left with a bouquet and a balloon. Her outfit matched the cameras: a maroon coat and top, a purple skirt, and pumps. The stop was not random. Nottingham is where the couple made their first public appearance after announcing their engagement in 2017.

Charity stops filled the rest of the day

Beyond the sidewalk greetings, the schedule was built for optics and local work. They planned to watch an acting workshop led by André Squire at the Community Recording Studio, meet members of the Hubb Community Kitchen at the Himmah Hub food bank, and visit Epic Partners, which supports youth through sports and mentorship.

That is the public face the Sussexes are pushing since coming back from California. The family left a $14 million Montecito mansion they moved into in 2020 and has been in England since August, now based in the Cotswolds. The timing lines up with earlier reports that Prince Harry and Meghan were heading back to Britain after years in the United States.

Thursday was not their first joint sighting since the return. On Oct. 1 they were photographed holding hands on the way to lunch at the Falkland Arms. Meghan had already been spotted on her own in September, tea at the members-only Soho Farmhouse, then a pub visit at the Three Horseshoes with Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. The Nottingham walkabout was different. It was billed as official, scheduled, and aimed at community groups rather than a private meal.

Children stayed out of the frame

Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, did not appear. They have largely stayed out of the spotlight while attending private school. After only two days, the children switched schools over security concerns, a reminder that the family’s move home did not erase the protection questions that followed them across the Atlantic.

Those questions are not abstract for British taxpayers. Officials have already had to weigh taxpayer-funded police protection for Prince Harry, even as the couple presents a softer image on provincial walkabouts.

Harry has tried to cast the children’s adjustment in warm terms. In a recent CTV interview, he said the kids are “happy.” He also told Hello! magazine that Archie and Lilibet “very much like” long walks and Marmite on crumpets, small “British things” offered as proof the household is settling in.

The children are “happy.”

Smile lines and snack talk are easy copy. They do not settle the harder file on what role, if any, the couple still holds in royal life after walking away and then coming home.

Royal status remains a live fight

The Nottingham outing put Harry and Meghan back in front of crowds and cameras. It did not restore the duties they left. Coverage of the family’s return has run alongside reporting that King Charles has formally barred Harry and Meghan from royal duties despite their presence in Britain again.

That gap matters. A former working royal and a “Suits” alum can fill a morning with workshops, food banks, and youth mentors. They cannot paper over a break with the institution that once defined Harry’s public role, or the legal and political headaches that followed the pair from Montecito back to England, including a London court fight that left Prince Harry ordered to pay millions after a failed privacy lawsuit.

Page Six had flagged the Nottingham plans over the weekend before the couple arrived. By Thursday morning the script was familiar: handshakes, local causes, a polished line about being “back,” and no hard answers on security costs, family repair, or what “home” means when official royal work is off the table.

Harry once flew military helicopters. Meghan built a Hollywood brand. Together they chose California, then chose England again. A staged walkabout in Nottingham shows they still want the public stage. It does not show they are prepared to carry the obligations that stage used to require.

Charm is not the same as accountability, and Britain has seen enough of the first to start asking for the second.
