Brace yourself for a heartbreaking story out of California that’s got everyone talking about border policies and highway safety.
The Daily Caller reported that a devastating multi-car collision on a highway in Ontario, California, has left three people dead, with authorities pointing the finger at an illegal immigrant driver operating a semi-truck while under the influence of drugs.
The suspect, 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh, an Indian national, was taken into custody on Tuesday after the catastrophic accident unfolded. Law enforcement reports that Singh was driving the massive rig when the pileup occurred, leaving a trail of destruction and loss on that California highway.
After being transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation, officers from the California Highway Patrol confirmed Singh was impaired by drugs at the time of the crash.
“He was eventually transported to the hospital, and he was checked out by the medical staff, and our officers determined he was driving under the influence of drugs,” said California Highway Patrol officer Rodrigo Jimenez.
Adding fuel to an already fiery situation, the Department of Homeland Security revealed Singh entered the U.S. unlawfully through the southern border in 2022 and was subsequently released under current administration policies.
Now facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, Singh also has an immigration detainer lodged against him by ICE, signaling potential deportation proceedings after legal matters are resolved.
This tragedy isn’t just a standalone incident—it’s part of a troubling pattern of fatal accidents allegedly involving unauthorized migrant truck drivers across the nation.
Just months ago, another Indian national, Harjinder Singh, was charged with vehicular homicide in Florida after a deadly illegal U-turn, while earlier this month, a trucker from Serbia and Montenegro caused a fatal crash in Indiana by veering into oncoming traffic.
ICE has issued detainers for both of those drivers as well, highlighting a growing concern over who’s behind the wheel of these commercial behemoths on American roads.
“This accident follows a disturbing trend of illegal aliens driving 18 wheelers and semi-trucks on America’s roads,” warned Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, pointing a sharp finger at what she sees as lax border control.
Let’s not pretend this hasn’t caught the attention of federal officials—under the Trump administration, a crackdown on unauthorized migrant truck drivers is in full swing, and it’s about time if you ask many conservatives.
In September, Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy rolled out tougher rules, mandating federal immigration status checks and employment-based visas for non-citizens seeking commercial driver’s licenses, a move that could affect roughly 200,000 individuals.
Duffy didn’t mince words when he called out California for allegedly handing out licenses to foreign drivers without proper oversight, threatening to yank millions in funding if the state doesn’t shape up—and frankly, that’s a wake-up call California can’t afford to snooze through.
