Republican Nassau County will bolster security following Zohran Mamdani's election victory

 November 25, 2025

Nassau County is drawing a hard line at its border with New York City, and the reason is clear: a socialist mayor-elect with controversial views on law enforcement.

Fox News reported that under the leadership of re-elected County Executive Bruce Blakeman, Nassau County is ramping up security measures along its border with New York City to counter perceived risks from Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s progressive agenda.

Blakeman, a Republican, secured a second term earlier this month in Nassau County, a predominantly Democratic area, winning by nearly 12 percentage points.

His victory, despite over 100,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans, reflects a strong voter preference for his focus on safety and affordability. He credits this appeal for cutting across party lines.

Blakeman’s Re-Election Signals Safety Priority

During his campaign, Blakeman leaned into pro-Trump policies and criticized New York’s sanctuary laws without hesitation. He emphasized his commitment to all communities, promising safer neighborhoods and lower taxes.

Post-election, Blakeman is doubling down on public safety with concrete actions. He’s directing the installation of advanced technology along the border shared with New York City. This includes license plate readers, facial recognition tools, and video surveillance systems.

The county is also expanding its police force by hiring new officers. With 100 cadets currently training at the Nassau County Police Academy, resources are being poured into law enforcement readiness.

Blakeman has been vocal about his intent to protect Nassau County residents. “We are doing everything necessary to make sure that Nassau County is safe,” he declared.

He elaborated on the border security upgrades, stating, “We are installing technology along the border of New York City that will read license plates, that will have facial recognition, that will have video cameras.” This move aims to monitor and deter potential threats spilling over from the city.

Blakeman’s law-and-order stance sharply contrasts with that of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, whose socialist proposals have raised alarms. Mamdani has historically criticized police, labeling them as threats to public safety, though he moderated these views during his campaign.

Mamdani’s Policies Spark Nassau’s Concerns

One of Mamdani’s more contentious ideas involves replacing law enforcement with mental health workers. Critics, including Blakeman, worry this could exacerbate crime in New York City, with ripple effects on neighboring areas like Nassau County.

Blakeman didn’t mince words about Mamdani, saying, “Mamdani talks like he's pro-criminal, not pro-victim.” He sees these policies as a direct threat to the economic and social fabric of the region.

Expressing deeper concerns, Blakeman added, “Right now, I see his values as anti-American.” He believes Mamdani’s approach could undermine New York City’s status as a global financial hub, potentially driving residents and businesses away.

This clash of ideologies isn’t just political theater—it’s a signal of potential economic shifts. If Mamdani’s policies destabilize New York City, capital and talent could flee to safer, more business-friendly areas like Nassau County.

Blakeman seems to welcome this possibility, extending an invitation to those disillusioned with the city. “They’re welcome to come to Nassau County, where it's safe and affordable,” he said, positioning his county as a refuge.
