South Carolina mother held without bond after allegedly stabbing her two children nearly 50 times

 September 29, 2026

A Spartanburg mother is locked up without bond after deputies say she stabbed her 6-year-old and 3-year-old roughly 50 times, leaving one child facing possible amputation.

Taylor Gosnell, 35, is accused of attacking her two young children with a knife inside their Spartanburg, South Carolina, home early Saturday morning. Deputies say the assault left both kids with severe injuries and sent them to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Local reporting describes an alleged knife attack so brutal that officials put the combined stab count near 50 and warned that the older child could lose fingers, and possibly an arm.

Gosnell faces two counts of attempted murder. A judge denied her bond. Deputies later secured additional warrants charging her with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Deputies put the wound count near 50

Graham McLellan of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office gave the scale of the alleged attack in plain terms.

McLellan said:

"Between the two children, we’re estimating that there were approximately 50 stab wounds."

In bond court, the solicitor’s office went further on how deep those wounds ran.

Prosecutors told the court “some of the lacerations were so deep they cut to the bone.”

That is the official record now attached to a mother charged with trying to kill her own children in their home.

Six-year-old faces possible amputation

The solicitor’s office said the injuries to the 6-year-old were very severe. Prosecutors described the medical stakes without soft language.

The office stated:

"He’s currently facing the possibility of amputation of fingers and possibly an arm due to the severity of the injury sustained."

The 3-year-old was also badly hurt in the same alleged assault. Both children were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Officials said they are expected to recover.

No motive appears in the public statements released so far. What officials have put on the record is the weapon, the wound estimate, the bone-deep lacerations, the attempted-murder charges, and the denied bond.

Bond denied, weapon warrants added

Gosnell was denied bond on the two attempted-murder counts. That decision keeps her in custody while the case moves forward.

Deputies did not stop at the initial charges. They later obtained additional warrants for possession of a weapon during a violent crime, tying the knife to the alleged attack under a separate count.

The children remain unnamed in the public accounts. Their ages, 6 and 3, and the hospital destination are what officials have confirmed. The scene was the family home in Spartanburg. The time frame given is early Saturday morning.

Attempted murder is among the most serious charges state law allows short of a completed killing. A no-bond hold signals the court treated the danger as immediate and severe. The extra weapon warrants widen the case beyond the stabbing counts alone.

Parents are supposed to be the first line of protection for little kids. When a mother is instead accused of carving bone-deep wounds into a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old, the only fitting answer is swift arrest, locked-down custody, and a full prosecution, exactly the path Spartanburg officials have started.
