Trump criticizes Indiana GOP over failed redistricting plan

 December 13, 2025

President Donald Trump has unleashed a fiery rebuke against Indiana Senate Republicans who derailed a plan to bolster GOP strength in congressional districts.

The Hill reported that the clash erupted after a mid-decade redistricting proposal, which would have tilted two more House seats toward Republicans, was shot down in the Indiana State Senate last Thursday, despite passing the House earlier that week.

The measure, aimed at giving Republicans an edge in all nine of Indiana’s congressional districts, hit a wall when 21 Republicans joined all 10 Democrats in the 50-member Senate to reject it.

This wasn’t just a policy disagreement—it was a betrayal in the eyes of Trump and his allies.

Early Saturday, Trump took to Truth Social to vent his frustration, zeroing in on Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray as the ringleader of this GOP resistance.

Trump didn’t mince words, calling for primary challenges against Bray and every Republican who opposed the map, signaling a no-mercy approach to party loyalty.

Trump Vows to Back Primary Challengers

“Republicans in the Indiana State Senate, who voted against a Majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, should be ashamed of themselves,” Trump declared on Truth Social.

“Headed by a total loser named Rod Bray, every one of these people should be ‘primaried,’ and I will be there to help!” he added, throwing down the gauntlet for a political showdown.

Trump’s pledge to support challengers isn’t new—he had warned of primary battles if the map failed, and now he’s doubling down with gusto.

Governor Mike Braun, aligning firmly with Trump, expressed his own dismay at the Senate’s decision, accusing a small faction of Republicans of siding with Democrats over Hoosier interests.

“I am very disappointed that a small group of misguided State Senators have partnered with Democrats to reject this opportunity to protect Hoosiers with fair maps and to reject the leadership of President Trump,” Braun stated.

He promised to work alongside Trump to unseat these lawmakers, hinting at serious political repercussions for those who defied the party line.

Pressure and Disappointment from the Top

The White House had been pushing hard for Indiana Republicans to back Trump’s broader redistricting agenda across the nation, making this defeat sting even more.

Despite the loss, Trump downplayed his direct involvement in the lobbying effort, insisting he “wasn’t very much involved” while still lamenting the outcome.

With Bray’s next primary not until May 2028, there’s time for this feud to simmer, but Trump’s base will likely remember this slight—and so will he.
