US launches major strike on ISIS in Syria after deadly ambush on American troops

 December 20, 2025

Boom—America hits back hard! In a thunderous response to a tragic ambush that claimed three American lives, the United States unleashed a fierce military operation in Syria, targeting ISIS operatives who thought they could strike and slink away.

The New York Post reported that the operation, a joint effort with Jordanian forces, obliterated over 70 ISIS targets across Syria’s Deir Az Zor province, resulting in at least five terrorist deaths, including a key drone cell leader, and the detention or elimination of 23 operatives.

It all started on December 13, when a devastating insider attack in Palmyra, Syria, took the lives of two brave Iowa National Guard soldiers, Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres Tover, 25, and Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, 29, along with interpreter Ayad Mansoor Sakat, 54.

Retaliation After a Heartbreaking Loss

This cowardly act by an ISIS gunman wasn’t just a strike on our troops; it was a direct challenge to American resolve.

President Trump, attending the dignified transfer of the fallen soldiers at Dover Air Base, didn’t hesitate to order what he called a “massive strike on the terrorists that killed our three great patriots last week.”

And massive it was—dubbed “Operation Hawkeye Strike,” the campaign deployed over 100 precision munitions, with F-15 jets, A-10 Warthogs, Apache helicopters, and missiles raining down on ISIS infrastructure and weapons hubs. Talk about a wake-up call for those plotting in the shadows.

The Jordanian military joined the fray, lending fighter aircraft to the effort, proving that America’s allies stand shoulder-to-shoulder when evil rears its head. It’s a refreshing change from the endless diplomatic hand-wringing we often see.

According to US Central Command, the 10 joint operations conducted during this retaliation led to the “deaths or detention of 23 terrorist operatives.” That’s a solid blow, but let’s not kid ourselves—ISIS isn’t gone, and their ability to infiltrate even allied forces, as seen in Palmyra, is a glaring problem.

The Syrian government, under President Ahmed al-Sharaa, is stretched thin, barely holding control over its own turf with limited manpower and resources.

While the White House, which hosted al-Sharaa in November, insists Syria must not become a terror haven, the reality of 9,000 ISIS prisoners under strained Syrian Defense Forces custody paints a grim picture.

President Trump didn’t mince words, declaring, “It was very successful. It was precision. We hit every site flawlessly and we are restoring peace through strength all over the world.”

Strength Through Action, Not Apologies

That’s the kind of leadership that cuts through the fog of political correctness and gets results. While some in Washington might clutch their pearls over military action, the administration’s commitment to bolstering al-Sharaa’s regime shows a clear-eyed focus on stability over endless debate.

Yet, the insider nature of the Palmyra attack, confirmed by both US and Syrian officials, underscores a deeper issue—how do you root out infiltrators when a government is forced to accept almost anyone into its ranks? It’s a security nightmare that no amount of precision strikes can fully solve.

Adding to the urgency, this ambush came just a day before ISIS-inspired shooters killed 15 at a Hanukkah celebration in Australia. The global reach of this threat isn’t theoretical; it’s a brutal reality that demands vigilance, not virtue-signaling.

Congress, in a rare moment of clarity, voted to lift outdated sanctions from the Assad era, signaling ongoing US involvement in Syria’s future. This isn’t about nation-building fantasies; it’s about ensuring a terrorist breeding ground doesn’t fester on our watch.

The Trump administration’s pledge to support a stable, unified Syria isn’t just rhetoric—it’s a strategic necessity for the Middle East and beyond. While progressive voices might decry military action as escalation, ignoring ISIS’s resurgence is the real recklessness.
