White House denies rumors of replacing DHS Secretary Noem

 December 8, 2025

Rumors are swirling that President Donald Trump might be eyeing a swap at the Department of Homeland Security, but the White House is slamming the brakes on that narrative.

Newsweek reported that despite whispers of a cabinet shake-up and reports suggesting Trump could replace Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, administration officials are standing firm in their support for her leadership.

Speculation kicked off when The Bulwark dropped a report on Saturday, citing three unnamed former DHS officials who claimed Trump was mulling a change at the top.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson took to X on Sunday to torch the story, calling it pure fiction.

“Anonymous former staffers pretend to know what POTUS is thinking and the Bulwark treats them as credible? This ‘report’—and the Bulwark—is total FAKE NEWS!” Jackson posted, adding that Noem is “doing a great job implementing the President’s agenda and Making America Safe Again.”

Well, if that’s not a mic drop, what is? The Bulwark’s sources might think they’ve got the inside scoop, but the White House isn’t buying what they’re selling, and frankly, neither should we when anonymous chatter drives the news cycle.

Noem’s Role in Immigration Policy

Noem, for her part, has been at the forefront of the administration’s hardline stance on immigration, a cornerstone of Trump’s agenda that’s drawn both praise and criticism.

While some Americans express frustration with the aggressive policies aimed at curbing unauthorized migration, Noem has doubled down, publicly affirming her loyalty to Trump and the mission.

At a recent Cabinet meeting, she addressed the controversy head-on, thanking Trump for the chance to serve in such a pivotal role.

“Thank you for giving me a very interesting job,” Noem told Trump, as reported from the meeting. “Some days it's a little controversial too, but it's been an honor to work for you.”

She went on, “You are a great American. The fights that you pick are the right fights, and they’re on behalf of this country.”

That’s heartfelt, no doubt, but let’s not ignore the elephant in the room—some senior White House officials are reportedly irked by Noem’s leadership, particularly her decision to keep controversial adviser Corey Lewandowski on board.

Speculation on Cabinet Shake-Up Grows

CNN echoed similar concerns in November, noting whispers of dissatisfaction with Lewandowski and even broader hints that DHS might see changes before the year’s end.

Adding fuel to the fire, The Bulwark mentioned Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, whose term ends in January, as a potential replacement for Noem, though CNN reports he’s more keen on a business-focused role than DHS.

While Newsweek sought Youngkin’s comment on Monday, the White House continues to back Noem—at least for now—as broader cabinet adjustments loom on the horizon with the New Year approaching.

Let’s hope any changes prioritize competence over gossip, because America deserves leaders who can handle the tough issues without the drama of unverified rumors.
