Indiana Democrat goes viral after vowing to fire Republicans and saying ‘we have guns too’

 October 17, 2026

Fayette County Democrat Jaime West went viral after a candidate forum where she vowed to fire Republicans and closed with “we have guns too,” drawing national attention and local pushback.

Jaime West, a Democratic hopeful for the Fayette County Council in east central Indiana, used a local televised candidate forum to unload on Republicans, dismiss “MAGA” voters as racist, and end with a gun line that rocketed across social media.

The Oct. 9, 2026 appearance on Connersville TV3 was meant to introduce local candidates. West’s roughly 10-minute turn instead became a national clip after she answered a policy question by saying she would pursue “Firing all Republicans” and closed her final remarks with “We have guns, too.”

The Indianapolis Star reported that the one-hour forum also featured candidates for county commission, the school corporation, and county council. West is running for the District 4 council seat against Republican Gary Keener Jr. in the Nov. 3 general election. Keener submitted a written statement to the station rather than appear on air.

West opened unprepared and went after MAGA voters

West owns Queen Bee’s Cleaning, listed as active under her name on the Indiana Secretary of State website, and has described herself as a local business owner and gig worker. On air, she floated starting from the heart rather than a polished script.

Breitbart reported that she admitted she had not prepared an opening statement and delivered slurred, rambling remarks while talking about her cleaning work and gig jobs. Critics online questioned whether she was intoxicated.

Asked about an unpopular decision she would make, West did not hedge.

She answered:

"Firing all Republicans"

She then drew a line inside the GOP. West said there are Republicans “who actually get it” and “good Republicans out there,” before adding, “then there’s MAGA.”

Her next lines were sharper:

"What do you want me to say. I don't like being around them."

And:

"(They're) just racist and aren't very intelligent at all. They call you names."

That is a county council candidate on local television sorting neighbors into camps, calling a huge share of them racist and slow, and treating “fire the other party” as a governing idea. Fayette County residents were not watching a policy briefing. They were watching a grievance reel.

Final minutes: ICE, taxes, and “we have guns, too”

West also tore into data centers, state wheel taxes, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She criticized Republican-led tax policy and pointed to Senate Bill 1, the property-tax limit measure the Indiana General Assembly passed the prior year, while warning about pressure on local services.

She claimed she had spoken with Connersville Fire Department Chief Scott Jones about a possible fire station closure tied to tight budgets. Jones answered that claim in public.

In an Oct. 12 Facebook post, Jones wrote:

"1) There will not be any fire station closures in Connersville,"

He added:

"2) I have no affiliation with the (Democratic Party) or any of its candidates."

West closed her forum segment with the line that made the clip travel:

"We have guns, too."

Fox News reported that she also claimed the sheriff’s nephew had threatened to blow her head off. Fayette County Sheriff Zac Jones replied that he has five nieces and zero nephews and does not know West. He called the remarks sad. The Indianapolis Star later reached out to the sheriff’s office and could not confirm whether West had reported any threats to law enforcement.

After the blowup, West blamed the climate, and the voters

The clip spread through social media, including the Libs of TikTok account, and was picked up by national outlets. West told the Star the attention had been overwhelming.

In an email, she wrote:

"My recent appearance on TV3 has unexpectedly brought a lot of attention, which has been a bit overwhelming."

She said she is “deeply concerned about the current political climate in Indiana” and argued that Republican policies raise property and income taxes while giving breaks to data centers as families face higher costs for groceries, daycare, and utilities.

She went further in a statement to the paper, saying Republicans have controlled the state for more than 20 years and calling it “frustrating to see so many Hoosiers continue to vote against their own interests and harbor hostility toward Democrats.” She added that she “often wonder[s] what drives this dynamic despite the ongoing challenges facing our communities.”

So the sequence is plain. On a local forum she said she would fire Republicans, smeared MAGA voters as racist and unintelligent, floated a fire-station scare the fire chief rejected, alleged a threat the sheriff said does not match his family, and signed off with “we have guns, too.” When the country noticed, she cast Indiana voters as the problem for refusing to back Democrats.

West wore merchandise supporting Victoria Martz, a Democrat trying to unseat Rep. Lindsay Patterson in Indiana House District 55. Martz did not immediately return a voicemail from the Star. Whether West has run for office before remains unclear in the available local reporting.

A county race with a national message

Fayette County’s District 4 council seat is a local job, budgets, services, and the day-to-day business of a small east-central Indiana community. West turned her audition into a partisan purge fantasy and a culture-war insult session, then paired it with a gun taunt.

Voters can judge the substance. A candidate who says the quiet part out loud about firing the other party, sneering at a mass of her own constituents, and answering criticism with “we have guns, too” is not offering careful local governance. She is offering raw factional politics and expecting applause for it.

Keener still has to make his own case before Nov. 3. West already made hers on camera: contempt first, accountability later, and a shrug at the voters who keep electing the people she wants removed.

When a council hopeful’s pitch is purge talk and a gun line, taxpayers get a clear preview of the judgment they are being asked to hire.
