Federal prosecutors charged a foreign national with casting an illegal ballot in Nevada’s 2024 election, and the Justice Department is warning noncitizens that voting is a federal crime.
Just The News reported that the Justice Department announced charges Friday against Jullie Ann Sumalinog Moore, a foreign national accused of voting illegally in Nevada.
First Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Nevada Sigal Chattah said Moore illegally voted in the 2024 election. The case sits in the District of Nevada, and Moore has not made an initial court appearance. No date has been set.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of up to $100,000, or both. The department did not name Moore’s country of origin.
Chattah framed the prosecution as a clear line on election law.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Sigal Chattah said:
"Let me be absolutely clear: if you are a noncitizen and you cast a ballot in our elections, you are committing a federal crime,"
That message matches a broader federal push on election crimes, including recent Justice Department charges against dozens of foreign nationals tied to illegal voting.
Only U.S. citizens may vote in federal elections. When a noncitizen casts a ballot, the law treats it as a federal offense, not a paperwork mix-up.
Chattah also pledged aggressive follow-through.
She stated:
"We will not hesitate to use the full weight of federal law enforcement to investigate, indict, and prosecute anyone who attempts to compromise the integrity of our elections."
Voters who follow the rules have a right to expect ballots cast by people who are legally eligible. Cases like this one, and other DOJ charging actions across multiple states, put that principle into practice.
Chattah credited the investigators who built the Nevada case.
She said:
"I commend our partners at the FBI and [Homeland Security Investigations] for their diligence, assistance and unwavering commitment to ensuring our elections remain fair and free from unlawful interference,"
The FBI and Homeland Security Investigations assisted the probe. How the alleged illegal vote was first detected was not detailed in the announcement, and the specific federal statute cited in the charging papers was not named in the initial report.
Similar enforcement has appeared in other states, from a federal grand jury indictment of foreign nationals in Minnesota to arrests elsewhere on multi-election voting counts.
Moore remains without a scheduled first appearance. As of the announcement, she had entered no public plea and issued no statement through the reporting.
Nevada’s case fits the same enforcement lane as other DOJ illegal-vote charges tied to the 2024 election, and as matters involving immigrants charged with voting illegally across multiple elections.
Election integrity is not optional. When federal prosecutors charge a noncitizen for casting a ballot, they are doing the basic work of protecting lawful votes and the citizens who cast them.
